Why does an AMMiC Parish/Church Plant need non-stipend vocational deacons?
What is the education requirement for vocational diaconate?
- 4 Required Courses:
- Survey of Scripture
- To Be A Christian: An Anglican Catechism (ACNA Approved Edition 2020)
- Spiritual Formation
- Survey of Church History
- 1 Compulsory course from the list below:
- History and Theology of the Diaconate OR Equivalent
- Anglicanism and Liturgy OR Equivalent
- Face-Shame culture and its implications for ministry and Personal growth
- Anglican Faith in the 39 Articles
- Mentoring by a recognised Spiritual Director is required.
- Course exemptions can be granted if the candidate has taken the same subject matter or its equivalent in a qualified theological institute as approved by the rector and Area Bishop.
How shall I proceed to discern and apply for vocational diaconate?
- Talk to the rector in your home parish first and together prayerfully discern the calling.
- Fulfill the education requirement for ordained permanent diaconate summarized in this brochure. Details can be found in “Formation of a school for lay leadership training and vocational diaconate in AMMiC” document available on the AMMiC
website or email to connect@ammic.ca. - Officially submit an application for Vocational Diaconate to AMMiC Area Bishop.
The application form can be downloaded from the AMMiC website or email to connect@ammic.ca. - The candidate will go through an AMMiC Discernment of Vocation Event (DOVE) and a retreat. God willing, the successful candidate will be ordained and licensed to serve in a local parish.
